Most basement floors, even in new homes, are damp. Concrete is a porous substance and requires air circulation. As temperatures in the basement fluctuate, it creates the perfect environment for moisture to accumulate between the underpad and concrete. This is where mold can begin to germinate which can lead to poor indoor air quality.
DRICORE® Subfloor panels are designed so the top surface remains flush, even when thicknesses vary between generations. When joining an older panel to a newer panel, align the top surfaces and shim the thinner panel as needed. For differences less than 1/163, a single shim at the midpoint of the thinner panel is typically sufficient. Over the years, DRICORE has made small product improvements that may result in minor thickness differences between older and newer panels.

Install DRICORE® Subfloor panels as recommended in our instruction sheets. For uneven floor variances greater than 1/4″, we recommend first using a concrete self-patching compound or a similar liquid concrete patching product. To check for floor height variances, take a 4ft level or longer straight edge and place over the concrete surface where the installation is to take place. Raise the straight edge or level to the level line and measure the height difference between the concrete floor surface and straight edge with a measuring tape.
The panels are configured with a tapered tongue and groove edge making panel assembly fast and easy. No gluing of the panel edges is recommended. The panels are intended to expand and contract with seasonal temperatures of the basement. A vapour barrier over the concrete surface is not recommended.
Bevestiging, afwatering en luchtdoorstroming
There are several options available for increasing airflow under DRICORE® panels. Transition strips for bridging floor height variations can be found in the flooring or lumber department of your local home improvement centre. For garage installations, panels must end a minimum 1ft from the garage door opening. If panels are left exposed in a garage or workshop, fasten every second panel along the perimeter wall edges to the concrete floor to prevent lateral movement or shifting with heavy equipment or use.
Ventilation en airflow are crucial: Do not seal or block the 1/4″ gap in a way that prevents air from filtering underneath panels. When installing trim, raise the trim slightly above the finished flooring material, by approximately 1/8″, to help encourage airflow. There are options for maintaining access to drains or clean-outs; access should be maintained, not restricted.
Vocht- en waterbeheer
Address the source of the water first. Once resolved, allow the area to dry thoroughly. In cases of significant flooding, panels may need to be removed for inspection and drying. For showers or bathtubs adjacent to DRICORE® Subfloor & Subfloor R+ panels, run a flexible caulking to seal the gap between the finished floor and the tub/shower unit to prevent excessive moisture from seeping between the finished floor and panels.

Stud walls can be set right on top of your new DRICORE® Subfloor. Install your 2’ x 4’ walls directly on top of the DRICORE® Subfloor panels, measuring for a snug fit between the panels and ceiling. For anchoring, pin the bottom plate to the concrete floor with minimal fastening: for example, on an 8-foot wall length, only two fastening points (one at each end) are required. If you plan to use metal studs, affix the base track for the studs to the DRICORE® Subfloor panels with wood screws; metal stud baseplates should be anchored to panels every 2 feet when installed over DRICORE® Subfloor panels.
Voorkom vocht en houdingsverschillen bij montage
Self-leveling compounds are not designed for use over DRICORE panels. When joining older and newer panels, ensure top surfaces are aligned and shim thinner panels as needed. For variances > 1/4″, use a concrete self-patching compound before laying the DRICORE panels. If a 1/4″ gap between the concrete floor and the base of the drywall is recommended to avoid moisture contamination, leave this gap when drywalling.

Yes, the easy-to-handle DRICORE panels are 3/4″ x 23.25″ x 23.25″ (of 23.5″ in some variants) en kleuren en textuurvariaties zijn natuurlijk. Onderhoud en afronding
After installation, you can apply a primer coat or 2-3 coats of polyurethane or varnish to the surface of DRICORE® Subfloor panels for a finished look. Voor een perfect resultaat is optimale voorbereiding cruciaal. Om je ruimte voor te bereiden op de installatie van je nieuwe vloeren moet alles schoon, vlak, droog en structureel in orde zijn. Acclimatisatie van panelen is niet vereist, maar de ruimte moet geklimatiseerd zijn voor installatie.
Impact op vloeren met vloer-verwarming
Radiant floor heating systems are recommended to be installed on top of the DRICORE® Subfloor panels for optimal performance. Floor heating can be integrated with disregard to air gaps, provided proper layout and airflow are maintained under panels. When installing, use only the number of shims required to level the panel and eliminate movement.
Overige overwegingen en tips
- DRICORE® Subfloor is ontworpen met een vochtmeting en luchtdoorlatend systeem om vocht te laten verdampen.
